David B. Friedman is known for his ongoing innovation, creativity and entrepreneurial vision. He began his professional career in 1983 as a purpose-driven commercial real estate broker, focused on building relationships with both clients and colleagues. Just four years later, he formed Friedman Real Estate Group and created a strategic partnership with a cutting-edge property management and construction company to offer fully integrated real estate solutions to a wide client base. Today, Friedman Real Estate is one of the nation’s leading single-source real estate organizations with operations in Michigan, Illinois, Texas, and Tennessee and has national coverage in 23 states.
David Friedman is truly the heart and visionary leader of the company that bears his name. Celebrating over 35 years of operations, the Friedman organization has grown to include 400 team members who bring a broad range of multi-disciplinary skills to each assignment. Friedman’s service lines currently encompass commercial brokerage, property and asset management, investment and loan sale advisory, turnaround management and receivership, space planning and design, construction, and project management.
David Friedman oversees the company’s third-party property and asset management portfolio, which includes more than 17.5 million square feet of commercial properties and more than 13,000 multi-family residential units. Friedman’s brokerage team has over 600 current listings with $22 billion in closed transactions. Beginning in the 1990s, David Friedman also became an active investor and advisor in distressed properties with several leading national lending institutions. Using his expertise in restructuring, repositioning and value creation, he has methodically acquired over 10 million square feet of distressed commercial and multi-family properties valued at more than $400 million with a current portfolio in excess of 6 million square feet.
A graduate of Michigan State University, David Friedman has received numerous distinctions from Crain’s Detroit Business, Midwest Real Estate News and National Real Estate Forum including awards for “Best of the Best”, “Who’s Who in Metro Detroit”, “Forty Over 40”, “Detroit Power Broker”, and “Real Estate Excellence”. He holds membership in several professional, civic and charitable organizations including the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors, International Council of Shopping Centers, and JARC.
